Xcel Energy has been granted approval from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission regarding the expansion of the Sherco solar project's third development phase.
Located in Minnesota, United States, the Sherco initiative is expected to replace the homonymous coal-fired power plant in Becker.
The approval will enable Xcel Energy to increase the third phase's capacity to 460MW, a 250MW increase from the initial design.
To cover this addition, the developer's calculated investment for Sherco has now surpassed US$1bn. In total, the solar complex will feature 710MW in capacity.
