Japan's Energy for a New Era (JERA) has launched a decommissioning project for Hirono's Units 1, 2, 3, and 4. Hirono is an oil and coal-fired power plant in Fukushima, Japan.
The modifications have already been notified to Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Units 1 and 2, which have been operational since 1980 and total 1.2GW of capacity, will be decommissioned in next month.
Unit 3 will also be decommissioned in October, while Unit 4's schedule has not yet been disclosed. Units 5 and 6 will follow once the first four units are done.
