PowerSouth Energy Cooperative has announced that its Lowman Energy Center (LEC) in Alabama, United States, has just entered operation. LEC consists of a combined cycle power plant replacing the previous Charles R Lowman coal-fired plant at the project's site.
Construction works began for LEC in 2020. Now that it is complete, the facility features Mitsubishi's M501JAC, an advanced air-cooled gas turbine with a generation capacity of 693MW.
LEC is expected to power 300,000 homes in Alabama and Northwest Florida per year. Mitsubishi will continue providing maintenance services for LEC's turbine during its operational phase.
