EDF, KHNP and Westinghouse have submitted their final bids for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Czech electricity company ČEZ. The contract is related to a new unit at the Dukovany nuclear power plant.
ČEZ invited companies to bid for the project earlier this year, and now the proposals will be reviewed before being sent to the government for approvals.
Dukovany's new unit will be its fifth. It's expected to have a capacity of at least 1.2GW and will replace the four units in operation at the site that are expected to shut down between 2035 and 2037.
The contract is planned to be signed in 2024, while trial operations at the plant will start in 2036.
