Transgrid, Australia's New South Wales grid operator, has chosen Acciona and partner Genu for the construction of the eastern section of the HumeLink transmission line project.
The HumeLink project requires an investment of A$1.4bn (US$920m), being one of Australia's largest energy infrastructure initiatives.
Acciona and Genu will be responsible for the construction of 237km of 500kV transmission lines from Bannaby to Wondalga, as well as for the upgrade of the 500kV Bannaby substation. Over 1,600 jobs are expected to be created during construction phase.
It is expected that the new transmission line will enhance transfer capacity between southern New South Wales and Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
