A consortium formed by EDF, TotalEnergies and Sumitomo has been selected for the construction of the Mphanda Nkuwa (MNK) hydropower project in Mozambique. Once up and running, the plant will have a capacity of 1.5GW.
The consortium is led by EDF with a 40% stake, while both Total Energies and Sumitomo hold 30% stakes each.
The MNK project, located on the Zambezi River, is planned to enhance Mozambique's electricity production capacity by more than 50%. The run-of-river plant will power over three million homes in the country.
