A final investment decision (FID) by AGL Energy on an energy storage project in New South Wales, Australia, has been recently announced by the company. The new battery facility will be built on the site of the Liddell coal power plant, which is now retired.
The 500MW/1,000MWh project will require an investment of approximately US$503m, and its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract has been awarded to Fluence.
Construction works are expected to start early next year, with operations scheduled for mid-2026.
