Another hydrocarbon discovery at Block 52 offshore Suriname has been announced by Petronas. The company found oil after drilling the Roystonea-1 exploration well.
This is the block's second discovery, with the first having been made in December 2020 in the Sloanea-1 exploration well. The well encountered several hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone packages with good reservoir qualities in the Campanian section.
Similarly to Sloanea-1, drilling of the Roystonea-1 also found numerous sandstone reservoir packages in the Campanian section.
Block 52 is operated by Petronas with a 50% share in the project, while partner ExxonMobil owns the remaining 50%.
