UK's BP and Indonesia's PT AKR have firmed a joint development agreement for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import project in East Java, Indonesia. The terminal will be built in Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) in Gresik.
According to plans, the LNG project will mainly serve to supply tenants in JIIPE, with a potential excess capacity being destined to East Java's indigenous pipelined gas network.
The import terminal should start operations around 2027 to be aligned with the start-up of many gas projects in JIIPE.
